Our Departments

The first department, the Research and Development Department, is Scanity UGM’s think-tank body. This department develops three programs, the first one being the Diskusjon. In this program, the R&D department conducts themed discussion with all of Scanity UGM’s members as participants. Aimed mainly to enhance our member’s ability of critical thinking on particular issues about the Scandinavian region, this program is conducted regularly every month. The second of R&D department’s three programs is the Movie Screening program. Within this program, the R&D department conducts regular screenings of Scandinavian media to introduce our members of the Scandinavian culture and incite creative discussions on Scandinavian issues. The R&D department’s last program is the bi-monthly Nyheter bulletin, where the R&D department facilitates the development of Scanity UGM’s members through writing to express opinions and designing a functional periodical on Scandinavian issues.

The second department, the Human Resource Development Department, has three main programs. The first program is the Open Recruitment which serves the regeneration function of Scanity UGM’s members and is held twice a year. The second program, the Open House, follows the Open Recruitment program. Within this program, the Human Resource Development Department would welcome the new members and facilitate transition of new members into Scanity UGM. And the last but not least is Scanictivity, the community bonding program. The purpose of this program is to facilitate the relationship-building of Scanity UGM’s members through entertaining activities and fun games. In this year alone, this program was planned to be conducted three times – the first Scanictivity being the “Morgenfrisk” which was held in May, which consisted mainly of fun games. The second Scanictivity was the “Friedgasmys” held last June, where the Human Resource Development Department held cooking competition with all members of Scanity UGM. And the last, upcoming Scanictivity will be held on October (and its still a secret!).

The next department, the Public Relations Department, serves as a communicator between Scanity UGM and its external relations. This department have 2 main programs: the first one being the maintenance of external relations with Scanity UGM’s colleagues, such as the Royal Norwegian Embassy, PACER, et cetera. The second program is the community visitation, where the PR department facilitates networking and information sharing through visitation programs with other communities. This year, the PR department arranged a visitation program to the Polyglot Community in Yogyakarta. Other than these two programs, the PR department had also arranged several projects, such as the open house program of the Scanity UGM’s secretariat office and the Norah book launching held several months ago.

The last department, the Media and Communication Department, is the creative crew of Scanity UGM. This department conducts four programs, the first being the design process of the Nyheter buletin in cooperation with the R&D department. The Media and Communication Department’s second program consists of handling of Scanity UGM’s social medias: Facebook, Twitter, and Line. Through this program, the Media and Communication Department connects Scanity UGM to the world and publishes Scanity UGM’s latest programs. The third program of this department is concerned with the design process of posters and any other printed and electronic publications for the other department’s programs. Finally, the Media and Communication Department’s last program is the documentation of Scanity UGM’s activities.
